About Us
The Kistane Guraghe People's Development Association (KGPDA) was formed in 1992 to undertake social and economical development activities. It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit making organization.
The KGPDA's main objectives and visions are to put an exertion to the people's social and economical development through self-help schemes by planning, designing and executing of doable projects in the field of education, health, and developing infrastructures: schools, clinics, roads, bridges, etc. so that the people will have adequate access to primary education; basic healthcare facilities; and technologies to improve their living standard through the improvement of their agricultural practices.
The type of projects that KGPDA would like to engage itself will be on the following social and economic development through own; or joint ventures with other organizations, individuals, or private sectors; or in collaboration and in association with the local Government program; or with individual donors and good-wishers; or with other NGOs engaged themselves on community developments.
The approaches being encouraged are:
- Emphasizing on Education & Youth Skill Development
- Building schools and health institutions through community participation in collaboration and coordination with the local government
- Participating in any other rural development activities
- Working on the promotion and preservation of the local historical heritages; sustaining the people's cultural assets including the Gordena Sera , Adabena; and the local language, Kistanigna
- Educating and promoting self- dependency and reliance
- Supporting and encouraging potential investors
- Supporting and encouraging potential investors
- Working in and promoting environmental protection programs that include afforestation of deforested hillsides and river banks
- Protecting and preserving of historical , cultural and religious sites

Organizationally, KGPDA has a General Assembly, Board, Office Manager, Financial Officer , Executive Secretary, a Public Relations Officer , and Project Managers as the case may be. A retained Legal Advisor and an Internal Auditor shall be hired on a part- time basis
The Head Office will be situated in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with Branch Offices at different cities of Ethiopia and abroad. The organogram, duties & responsibilities are in accordance with the new Ethiopian CSO Proclamation No…..2019.
The General Assembly is composed of volunteer members that strive to work for the betterment of the community residing in Soddo weredas of the Guraghe Zone. The General Assembly elects members of the board from its rank.
SOCIO ECONOMIC CONDITION OF THE PEOPLE
THE LAND
The Kistane people primarily live in the South Nations, Nationalities and People Regional State (SNNPRS) , Gurage Zone, Soddo Weredas. In addition to that, Addis Ababa is home for many Kistane .They have also made home in different parts of Ethiopia, including in the neighboring weredas of Meskane and Mareko.
Soddo is found at the northern tip of SNNPDS boarder with Kondaltity from north, Arbochulule from west, Meskane and Mareko from south and Oromiya Regional State from east (See the detailed maps).
