About Us

The Kistane Guraghe People's Development Association (KGPDA) was formed in 1992 to undertake social and economical development activities. It is a non-governmental, non-political and non-profit making organization.

The KGPDA's main objectives and visions are to put an exertion to the people's social and economical development through self-help schemes by planning, designing and executing of doable projects in the field of education, health, and developing infrastructures: schools, clinics, roads, bridges, etc. so that the people will have adequate access to primary education; basic healthcare facilities; and technologies to improve their living standard through the improvement of their agricultural practices.

The type of projects that KGPDA would like to engage itself will be on the following social and economic development through own; or joint ventures with other organizations, individuals, or private sectors; or in collaboration and in association with the local Government program; or with individual donors and good-wishers; or with other NGOs engaged themselves on community developments.

The approaches being encouraged are:

  •  Emphasizing on Education & Youth Skill Development
  •  Building schools and health institutions through community participation in collaboration and coordination with the local government
  •  Participating in any other rural development activities
  •  Working on the promotion and preservation of the local historical heritages; sustaining the people's cultural assets including the Gordena Sera , Adabena; and the local language, Kistanigna
  •  Educating and promoting self- dependency and reliance
  •  Supporting and encouraging potential investors
  •  Supporting and encouraging potential investors
  •  Working in and promoting environmental protection programs that include afforestation of deforested hillsides and river banks
  •  Protecting and preserving of historical , cultural and religious sites

Organizationally, KGPDA has a General Assembly, Board, Office Manager, Financial Officer , Executive Secretary, a Public Relations Officer , and Project Managers as the case may be. A retained Legal Advisor and an Internal Auditor shall be hired on a part- time basis

The Head Office will be situated in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with Branch Offices at different cities of Ethiopia and abroad. The organogram, duties & responsibilities are in accordance with the new Ethiopian CSO Proclamation No…..2019.

SOCIO ECONOMIC CONDITION OF THE PEOPLE

THE LAND

The Kistane people primarily live in the South Nations, Nationalities and People Regional State (SNNPRS) , Gurage Zone, Soddo Weredas. In addition to that, Addis Ababa is home for many Kistane .They have also made home in different parts of Ethiopia, including in the neighboring weredas of Meskane and Mareko.

Soddo is found at the northern tip of SNNPDS boarder with Kondaltity from north, Arbochulule from west, Meskane and Mareko from south and Oromiya Regional State from east (See the detailed maps).

Objectives of the Association

KGPDA has the following objectives;

  • To promote environmental development and protection by implementing modern agricultural practices;
  • To establish cottage and modern industry which are appropriate to the local community;
  • Improve vocational schools’ and health institutions’ capacity;
  • Promote the accessibility of portable water to the community;
  • Construct different infrastructure (roads, telephone, etc) and energy sources;
  • To facilitate the Kistane Guragehe People natural resources to be tourism destination;
  • To protect and improve the culture, language, history and artifacts of Kistane Guraghe People and try to eliminate the harmful traditional Practices;
  • To provide support for any organ who wishes to engage in developmental activities of the society.

    • Membership

  • The association will hold the founding members and other members who gain acceptance by the office or branch office.
  • The association will accept members who fulfill the requirements.
  • The association will not be obliged to accept members which it has provided its promise.
  • All regular and honorable members have equal right.
  • The membership of the association will not be hereditary.
  • If any given member couldn’t pay the required contribution or couldn’t provide required services, he couldn’t use his rights.
  • The membership fee shall be paid on the beginning of the year.
  • If any given member couldn’t fulfill his obligations without any good cause as stipulated on the memorandum of the association, may the membership terminate or may the association make him leave the association.
  • Any member of the association;
  • Has the right to vote, to elect be elected, and entitled to inspect the information regarding the association.
  • Present on the assembly; provide his opinion regarding the association and vote.
  • Shall respect the objectives of the association, to contribute his fee on timely basis and shall provide the required services.

  • Any individual who is more than 18 years old whether Ethiopian or not and entities who have legal acknowledgment and:
    -Accept the objectives of the association;
    -Willing to pay his contribution;
    -Willing to provide his professional or effort service and accepted by the office or branch office may become member;
    -The association will provide honorable membership tittle for members who place big role with finance, material and in different condition.
  • Any member:
    - Found participate in actions which deteriorate the existence of the association or couldn’t fulfill all required services which are essential for the success of the objective of association or couldn’t pay his membership fee on timely basis or wishes to leave the association by his own reason and his membership status cancelled by the general assembly or
    - Passed away, the membership may be aborted.

    •  Platinum member will pay Birr 20,000.00
    •  Gold member will pay Birr 10,000.00
    •  Silver member will pay Birr 5,000.00
    •  Bronze member will pay Birr 3,000.00
    •  Regular member will pay Birr 500.00
